This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Custodial staff members are responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary welcoming environment.

Position 1: Sunday – Thursday, 8am to noon
Position 2: Tuesday – Friday, 1pm to 5pm & Saturday 8am to noon

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform excellent service to all members, staff, volunteers and guests in accordance with all YMCA policies and procedures
2. Build relationships by using names and initiating conversations with all members, staff, volunteers and guests
3. Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using active listening skills
4. Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility
5. Clean areas assigned to ensure the building and grounds are properly cleaned
6. Perform janitorial duties which include, but are not limited to wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, room setup/breakdown, vacuuming, grounds care, snow shoveling and other general cleaning/maintenance services
7. Report needed repairs and/or any unsafe conditions in a timely manner
8. Replace soap, paper towels and other supplies
9. Maintain laundry as needed
10. Safely operate cleaning equipment and properly handle and store cleaning compounds and chemicals
11. Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma/GED and six months cleaning/maintenance experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to understand and interpret instructions
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment preferred
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use
  • Ability to pass a background check – CORI & SORI

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
  • Move up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations up to 200 feet away 10-15 times a day
  • Work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms
  • Ability to clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed
  • Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust
  • Perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi–reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders and legs; and laying on stomach or back
  • The work environment may include working outdoors, or in warm air temperatures indoors

We want you to join our team! The YMCA is looking for team players who are willing to commit to a minimum of one year at our Y Academy on Main. Candidates must have classroom experience, must be able to clear a background and fingerprint check, currently have a CPR certification or is willing to obtain certification upon hire, has flexible availability, and has reliable transportation. Job duties will include, but are not limited to, supervision of children, class management, lesson planning, and attendance for all center events, diaper changing and/or potty training, cleaning and sanitizing classrooms.

This position is full time, 7:30am – 3:30pm, with a starting pay range of $17.00 – $19.00 per hour depending upon experience and qualifications.
The YMCA is looking to fill this position as soon as possible.

Education and Training Requirements:
– At least 21 years of age
– High School diploma- 3 credits of Human Growth & Development AND 9 months of work experience OR CDA credential OR 2 year vocational program in ECE (approved)
– Must complete 12 hours of EEC Essentials Trainings upon hire

We are seeking highly motivated, flexible team member for our Y Academy at the Bolger Center for Early Childhood Education, located in Gill, MA.

Candidates must have classroom experience and be EEC Teacher Certified/Qualified (Lead Teacher certification preferred), clean background and fingerprint check, CPR certified (can be completed upon hire), and have reliable transportation.

Job duties will include but are not limited to: engagement with children, including their supervision and care, classroom management, curriculum planning, parent connections, progress reports, and classroom cleaning and sanitizing.
