Swim Lessons

Youth Swim Lessons boast an innovative curriculum designed to advance individual swimmer’s skills and abilities in a wide variety of swimming proficiencies including personal safety, submersion, stroke work, diving, boating safety, competitive swimming, endurance and physical fitness. Each swimmer’s progress is tracked as they earn rewards for benchmarks achieved. Complete all the skills at one level and advance to the next. Our program produces the future lifeguards and swim instructors that we count on to keep our community safe.

If a participant chooses to withdraw from a program for specified/unspecified reasons, a prorated credit may be issued if approved by the Program Director. Notice must be given at the time of withdrawal from the program.

Aquatics Academy: Junior Lifeguard School

STUDENTS MUST SWIM TEST TO TAKE THIS CLASS. Please reach out to the Aquatics Director Lisa Woodall at [email protected] to schedule a time. 

Junior Lifeguard school will meet in the social room on Tuesdays at 5:45 followed by pool time at 6:15

Junior Lifeguard School will teach water safety and introduce participants (ages 10-15 years old) to the duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard: however, this course will not certify anyone to be a lifeguard. It will build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills in preparation for the American Red Cross Lifeguard course. Please note this is not a learn-to-swim program and this is not a lifeguard certification class.

To participate in Junior Lifeguarding, the following skills must be demonstrated:

  • Step into the water from the side and totally submerge
  • Maintain position for one minute by treading water
  • Rotate one full turn and orient to exit
  • Level off and swim on front 25 yards front crawl
  • Swim 25 yards breaststroke
  • Swim on back 25 yards
  • Exit water without using steps or ladder
  • Retrieve 3 rings from the bottom of the pool in chest deep water

Recreational swim training program for kids who wish to refine competitive stroke technique while improving strength and endurance. Level 1: Water Acclimation

Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the water in the event of falling into a body of water. This lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming.

Students in this stage focus on the following:

  • Exploring the aquatic environment  and personal skills with instructor help
  • Developing basic skills to propel and glide through the water with instructor help
  • Learning basic aquatic safety and accepting some of the responsibility for safe practices

Parents may not watch from deck, but may view from observation room.

Please arrive to class ready to swim with hair tied back and in proper swim attire. All participants MUST shower before entering the water. Street shoes are not allowed on the pool deck.

In this stage, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

Students in this stage focus on the following:

  • Exploring the aquatic environment and personal skills without instructor help
  • Developing basic skills to propel and glide through the water without instructor help
  • Learning basic aquatic and boating safety and accepting some of the responsibility for safe practices.

Level 3:  Water Stamina

In this stage, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

Students in this stage focus on the following:

  • Integrating arm action, leg action, and rhythmic breathing in back and front glides
  • Developing forward movement on the front and back
  • Practicing skills and safety techniques in deep water

Parents may not watch from deck, but may view from observation room.

Students in this stage develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

  • Introducing components of breaststroke and butterfly
  • Practicing safety techniques in deep water

Parent Child: Water Discovery & Exploration (6mo-3yrs)

Each child must be accompanied by an adult 16 years of age or older

One parent/guardian accompanies child in the water

Children must wear proper swim diapers

Swim starters curriculum in which infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
