Immune Boost Mini Retreat

All Locations
12/10/23 - 12/10/23
VIEW

Winter will soon be upon us, bringing new challenges to our immune systems. We will spend more time indoors engaged in sedentary activities while being exposed to seasonal colds and flu. Briefer daylight hours may take a toll on our emotional well-being. And for many of us, the winter holidays will bring additional stress.

Give your immune system a boost by joining Barbara Polowy for a 90-minute yoga-based mini-retreat.

She’ll guide you through:
· Gentle yoga movements to stimulate the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in our ability to resist infection
· Pranayama (yoga breath work) to calm the nervous system
· Guided relaxation to deeply rest the body and mind

Pedaling for Parkinson's

All Locations
6/26/23 - 12/20/23
VIEW

Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace – optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute.

Fast pedaling is not a cure of Parkinson’s disease and should not be described as such, but there is compelling evidence that it can make a real difference for many who try it. We do know that fast-paced cycling is changing the lives of increasing numbers of participants who, before this, had no hope beyond medication and eventually surgery to slow the progression of their disease.

The mission of Pedaling for Parkinson’s is:

  • To improve the quality of life of Parkinson’s disease patients and their caregivers.
  • To educate patients, caregivers, and the general public about the benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle after a Parkinson’s diagnosis.
  • To support research dedicated to the prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s disease

No cost to YMCA Members. Please contact Jayne at 413-773-3646 ext 448 for more information or to schedule the initial intake.

This program is supported in part by the American Parkinson Disease Association Massachusetts Chapter
