Dance
Dance classes for children and youth focus on enhancing basic body movement, coordination, and muscle development by developing balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance. The movements involved in dance contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups.
Our dance program is for all levels, beginners to advanced. Each of our trained dance instructors will guide your dancer along the way!
Missed Classes: YMCA tuition spot in class, pays for your dancer(s) spot in class regardless of attendance. Classes have no cash value once missed and tuition is not prorated, credited or refunded for absences including, but not limited to, illness, vacation, holidays, snow days, etc. Any classes that are missed are forfeited. Every effort will be made to offer make up classes for regular missed classes and for weather cancellations, but, because of staffing and gym space, make ups are NOT GUARANTEED.
When participants pay for a session they are paying for the 7 weeks of that exact time and day they registered for. Participants will NOT be able to make up on other days or classes offered due to ratios and the safety of our participants.
Our goal is to teach your children dance in a fun and safe way! Please note the following things which need to be followed to ensure the safety of your child during dance classes.
Drop off: You must bring your child to the second floor, Adams Room. There are cubbies and coat hooks outside of the Adams Room to store jackets and shoes. Please remind your child that they may not be chewing gum! It is a choking hazard!
Where can I wait during my child’s dance class? There is seating outside of the dance studio. Parents will not be allowed in the dance studio during class.
Attire for Dance class: Comfortable athletic attire such as leggings and a tank top. Dancer may also wear a leotard and shorts. Please no jeans, dresses, skirts, buttons, or zippers.
Hair: Children’s hair MUST be up and out of the eyes, this is a safety issue and children can get hurt if their hair is not pulled back! We do NOT provide hair ties for children.
Hydration: We do NOT have a water fountain so dancers MUST bring their own water bottles.
Shoes: Will NOT be worn during this class. Dancers may bring a pair of jazz shoes or half soles if they wish. This means no outdoor shoes allowed in the dance floor.
Pick up: Parents or guardians must come to the Adams Room door to pick up their child. We do not allow children to walk throughout the YMCA unattended without an adult. This is for safety issues.
Rules inside of the dance studio (which we tell the children): Hair up at all times, no gum, no running, no screaming, ask to use the restroom (to ensure safety of child), when a dance teacher is speaking and giving instructions there is no talking, dancers are not allowed to touch equipment unless the dance instructor has told them to do so (there is dangerous equipment that needs to be tightened and moved in a specific way and we need to ensure the safety of all the children), respecting the equipment (do not throw equipment), no hiding, no picking feet/body, respect the equipment (no scratching and pulling things off).
If you have any questions about where your child best fits, please contact the Program Director, Mirasia at [email protected]
If a participant chooses to withdraw from a program for specified/unspecified reasons: please see YMCA policy.
