YMCA Recreational & Specialty Gymnastics Classes
Recreational Gymnastics classes for children and families focus on enhancing basic body movement, coordination, and muscle development by developing balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups.
Our USAG-certified gymnastics Club provides gymnastics programs for individuals at all levels, from beginners to advanced. All of our gymnastics staff members are highly trained and hold certification as USAG gymnastics instructors.
Program Guidelines and Policies
Enrollment
Our classes are thoughtfully designed to cater to the individual needs of each child. Our gymnastics program takes into account various crucial factors, including the developmental stages of physical, emotional, social, and cognitive aspects at the time of enrollment. Each gymnast will be placed in the course corresponding to their age at the time of enrollment. In the event that their birthday falls within a session, they will be scheduled to enroll in the subsequent course during the next session. Click here to register

Parent Child
Parent-Child Classes are fun, instructor-led sessions where toddlers learn and explore with their parent or guardian. While toddlers may wander or need a moment to adjust — that’s completely normal — these classes have a clear structure led by the instructor.
Parent Role:
Stay within arm’s reach of your child and guide them through each activity
Follow the instructor’s directions and move with your child from station to station
Support learning while letting the instructor lead activities
If your child wanders or needs a break, please bring them back to your group
Quick Reminders:
One parent/guardian per child on the gymnastics floor
Parents wear socks; children are barefoot
Siblings and extra adults stay off the floor (mezzanines available for viewing)
All personal items stay in cubbies outside the gym
Water only — no food or drinks on the gymnastics floor
These classes are designed for learning and fun, with parents actively helping their child at each station. The instructor guides the activities, so everyone gets a chance to learn, practice skills, and feel successful.

Parent Child vs. Playgroups
Parent-Child Classes (Ages 6 months–4 years)

Goal: Build confidence, gross motor skills, and social skills in a safe, guided environment
Playgroups (Ages 0-5)
Child-led: Kids explore freely, but parents stay within arm’s reach for safety
Open play: Children move through equipment and activities as they choose

Missed Classes
Payment secures a gymnast’s spot in class for the full session, regardless of attendance. Tuition is non-refundable and cannot be credited or prorated for missed classes, including those due to illness, vacation, holidays, or weather.
Make-up classes are not guaranteed due to limited space, staffing, and availability.
Appropriate Attire
For safety, gymnasts should wear a leotard (with or without shorts) or tight-fitted shorts and a compression shirt. Avoid clothing that exposes the midsection, as it can cause abrasions.
Please do not wear dance leotards with skirts, loose clothing, or items with zippers, buttons, or drawstrings, as they pose safety risks. Jewelry is not allowed, except for small stud earrings.
Hair
For everyone’s safety, please make sure your child’s hair is tied back and away from their face before class. We’re unable to provide hair ties, and gymnasts with loose hair may not be able to participate. Thank you for helping us keep all gymnasts safe!
